Following the impact caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government, in coordination with the National Institute of Social Action (INAS), made financial assistance available to residents of the city of Nacala-Porto.
The support programme the payment of three instalments, with each beneficiary entitled to receive three thousand meticais per instalment.
The initiative was well received by the population; however, several irregularities were reported in the process of receiving the funds, involving some neighbourhood secretaries who were responsible for registering beneficiaries in their respective areas.
About two years ago, INAS managed to make a manual payment of one instalment, but the process was marked by significant confusion, with cases of individuals receiving money on behalf of others, which led to the suspension of the programme. Subsequently, INAS, in coordination with Vodacom, distributed cards to the beneficiaries.
The purpose of these cards was to enable payments through electronic money. As a result, all properly registered beneficiaries received their cards, had accounts opened, and their respective numbers registered with Vodacom.
This week, the funds began to be deposited into the accounts of some beneficiaries, although others have not yet received the payment. Those who did not see the amount reflected in their accounts went to the INAS and Vodacom offices on Monday and Tuesday to lodge complaints.
Vodacom advised the claimants to wait at home, assuring them that the funds would be credited during the course of the week. According to the information provided, the amount currently being paid corresponds to two instalments.
Residents who have already received the money expressed satisfaction, stating that they had been waiting for the support for a long time. (BP)
