A ship has been operating along the coast of Nampula Province for nearly two weeks, moving between the districts of Angoche, Liupo, and Mogincual. It is currently anchored between the districts of Angoche and Liupo, where it has remained for about a week.
Residents of the Quinga administrative post, located approximately 43 km from the district headquarters of Liupo, report that the ship was last week in the neighboring district of Mogincual, from where it departed after being pursued by local maritime authorities seeking to determine its origin.
According to Mozanorte sources, maritime authorities and other competent entities approached the ship but were unable to open its doors. After several hours, the authorities withdrew, and shortly afterward the ship moved toward the district of Liupo, specifically to the Quinga administrative post.
On the day of its arrival at that administrative post, some residents spent the night in nearby forests, frightened by the ship’s unexpected presence. The strong lighting emitted by the vessel caused panic among residents that night. Two days later, the ship moved slightly forward and once again anchored between the districts of Angoche and Liupo.
A multi-sectoral team composed of representatives from INAMAR, PCLF, the Navy, ITRANSMAR, and SERNIC traveled to the location where the ship was anchored. The authorities managed to open the vessel’s doors and board it, holding discussions with the owners, who stated that the ship was there due to an engine malfunction.
However, residents are not satisfied with this explanation, as the ship reportedly approaches the shoreline at night, raising doubts about the alleged engine failure. The population in these areas holds the competent authorities responsible for any eventual incident, citing a lack of a clear and convincing explanation.
Meanwhile, local authorities deny having concrete knowledge of what is actually happening regarding the ship’s movements, stating only that another multi-sectoral team may depart from the provincial capital. Mozanorte says it is monitoring the situation closely and will share any new information with its readers and followers.
Fishermen who approached the ship claim that it is accompanied by a yacht (a sophisticated fiberglass vessel) and that both vessels move together. Residents are calling for urgent clarification so they can feel at ease. (BP)
