Giant Waves claim the life of a fisherman in Larde



Due to strong winds that occurred at Naholuco Beach, in Topuito locality, Larde District, Nampula Province, giant waves formed and claimed the life of a fisherman.

At around 11:00 a.m. on 16/02/2026, the maritime authorities of Larde received a phone call from Naholuco neighborhood reporting the presence of a lifeless body at Naholuco Beach, in Topuito locality. The deceased was identified as Saíde Momade, 18 years old, a native and resident of Larde, specifically Naholuco neighborhood.

According to reports, the young man was on a sailing boat carrying out fishing activities in the company of his colleagues when a giant wave struck the vessel, causing it to capsize. The deceased became trapped in the boat and did not survive, losing his life at the scene.

Subsequently, another boat that was operating nearby provided assistance and transported the body to the mainland.

Local authorities organized a multi-sectoral team composed of PRM, PCLF, SERNIC, and the Health sector, which conducted a post-mortem examination and officially declared the death. The body was later handed over to the family for funeral ceremonies. (BP)
