Employees and State agents working at the Conselho Municipal de Nacala-Porto have threatened to halt all activities through a general strike, citing alleged non-compliance with legal provisions by the municipality’s management.
The warning is contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Municipal Council on the 16th of this month. The document, reportedly signed by municipal employees and State agents, gives the leadership a six-day ultimatum to address their concerns, warning that all operations will come to a standstill if no concrete action is taken.
Among their key demands is the full implementation of the Single Salary Table (TSU), approved by Decree No. 29/2022 of June 9. The workers argue that the salary framework must be applied in accordance with national regulations governing public servants.
They also call for strict compliance with Law No. 14/2020, which establishes the State Financial Administration System for public officials and State agents. According to the employees, failure to observe this law undermines their rights and weakens administrative legality within the municipality.
Another major grievance concerns a 15 percent salary increase, which the workers claim is due because Nacala-Porto is classified as a Category B municipality. They argue that the non-application of this increment has contributed to growing dissatisfaction among staff.
If the strike goes ahead, essential municipal services including public service delivery, urban sanitation, administrative operations, and revenue collection could be severely affected.
By the time of publication, the municipal leadership had not yet issued an official response to the letter. Meanwhile, the situation remains tense as residents await developments that could significantly impact service provision in Nacala-Porto. (Mozanorte)
