The
Provincial Directorate of Transport and Communications (DPTC) of Cabo Delgado received,
on July 16th of the current year, two typical mixed-use vehicles for rural
transport.
These
are part of a total of 10 units acquired for Cabo Delgado province. In this
pilot phase, the provinces of Manica, Zambézia, Nampula, and Niassa were also
included, each receiving two units. The project, funded by the Communications
Development Fund (FDC), aims to allocate buses and vehicles for rural
transport.
According
to the Governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, the two mixed-use vehicles now
received were specially designed to meet the needs of rural communities, which
still face significant challenges related to access roads, hindering the
homogeneous provision of services.
"The
assets we received were acquired by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics,
through the Transport and Communications Development Fund," declared
Governor Tauabo.
The
governor added that the vehicles will be assigned to districts selected by the
Provincial Government, where needs outweigh installed capacity, allowing for
the simultaneous transport of passengers and cargo. The vehicles also have the
capability to travel in hard-to-reach areas, especially during the rainy
season.
"We
are concerned about the state of conservation and presentation of the transport
assets we have been acquiring and allocating to the private sector. The
operators responsible for these assets must redouble efforts to ensure the
quality of services provided to users, including maintenance, repair of seats,
windows, and other accessories, as well as their cleanliness," reinforced
Tauabo.
He
urged stakeholders to pay special attention to user satisfaction, who are the
true beneficiaries of these assets, and appealed for public cooperation in
preserving the vehicles, avoiding practices that lead to their degradation, so
that they can serve longer and in good condition.
In
turn, the Provincial Director of Transport and Communications, Nelson Pereira,
explained that they received the two transport vehicles and that a public
tender will be launched to select operators. Candidates must have proven
experience in transport management and financial capacity, needing to present
bank statements and demonstrate genuine interest in the operation.
"This
time, the funders directly handed over to the DPTC the responsibility for
managing the assets. Unlike previous deliveries, where funds were channeled to
the Ministry, now it is the DPTC that will manage, sign contracts with
operators, and exercise direct control," clarified Nelson Pereira.
The
director also informed that the two vehicles received have been allocated to
the districts of Mecúfi and Quissanga. Subsequently, other districts in Cabo
Delgado province will be included. In total, 10 vehicles will be distributed.
The selection of districts will be based on an assessment of road conditions,
prioritizing areas with muddy and difficult-to-access terrain that are not
suitable for urban vehicles.
Districts
like Mecúfi, Quissanga, and Namuno are already being considered, and a study
will be conducted in coordination with technical experts in the area to
determine the other locations that may receive the vehicles. Abel Buruhane
