More than 60 people attempted to illegally cross the border at the Negomano crossing point in northern Mozambique between January and June of this year. This information was made public by the Border Guard Police during the district administrator's visit to the police facilities.
According to the report,
a total of 61 individuals were
arrested during attempts to irregularly enter or exit the country. Among them
were 10 illegal immigrants, including
two from the Democratic Republic of Congo, five from Tanzania, and three from Bangladesh,
with ages ranging from 1 to 73. The remaining 51 were Mozambican citizens
involved in unauthorized crossings.
The same report indicates
an 8.92% increase in patrol operations
along the Tanzanian border, a direct result of enhanced surveillance efforts.
Additional illegal activities thwarted
In addition to illegal
immigration attempts, the police also seized 50
jerrycans of gasoline that were being clandestinely transported from
Tanzania for the informal market in Mueda. This occurred during a period of
fuel scarcity in Cabo Delgado. The individual involved was handed over to the
relevant authorities.
Another notable case was
the seizure of two chainsaws in the
Naida company sector, which were presumably used for illegal logging. Although
the suspects managed to escape, the equipment was recovered and sent to the
Public Prosecutor's Office for investigation.
The Border Guard Police are reinforcing their commitment to
border control and are appealing for collaboration from local communities to
combat illegal activities that threaten the country's security and resources. (Mozanorte)
