The Education sector in Cabo Delgado is facing an urgent need for professionals to alleviate the overload in the province’s schools.

According to the Provincial Director of Education, Ivaldo Quincardete, approximately 1,800 teachers are required to reduce the excessive number of classes, decrease teachers' overtime, and improve the quality of education.

In a press conference held on Monday, Quincardete announced that the province plans to hire 236 new teachers this year, a number still insufficient to meet the actual demand of the schools.

In addition to the shortage of teachers, the sector is also concerned about the enrollment target for the first grade of the 2025 school year.

As of that day, 120,835 children have been enrolled, which represents 89% of the target set for the province.

Regarding educational materials, Cabo Delgado has received approximately 419,000 textbooks, which are currently being distributed by the District Education Services, according to the distribution plans, to ensure that schools receive the necessary resources for the smooth running of lessons.
