Over 8,400 people in
Muxara in Pemba city are set to benefit from essential social infrastructure
improvements, identified and prioritized by both the internally displaced
persons (IDPs) and the host community. These upgrades are the result of a
participatory process that assessed the urban and social challenges of the
neighborhood, with a particular focus on women and girls.
As
part of this initiative, the Seminário de Apresentação e Consolidação das Acções
Estratégicas do Plano de Acção de Muxara was held on March 4th. The event brought
together representatives from the municipality, civil society, international
organizations, and community members to validate and strengthen the action
plan, ensuring that the proposed solutions are both sustainable and effective,
according do UN-Habitat publication.
This initiative, titled
Sustainable and Gender-Sensitive Integration of Internally Displaced Persons in
Pemba through the Implementation of Durable Urban Solutions, is funded by the
Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by the Pemba
Municipality in partnership with UN-Habitat and the International Organization
for Migration (IOM). It represents a crucial step towards transforming Muxara
into a safer, more inclusive neighborhood, well-prepared for the future.
With a shared commitment
to sustainability and social equity, this project highlights the importance of
collaborative efforts to create urban solutions that benefit all members of the
community, especially the most vulnerable. (Mozanorte)
