Paulo Chicomaussico, president of the Municipal Council of Metangula town, in Lago District, Niassa Province, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday (August 21) for the construction of a water borehole in the Capueleza neighborhood. The event was attended by community leaders, members of the municipal assembly, and the general public.
Paulo Chicomaussico, the mayor of Metangula, stated that this is the first of ten boreholes planned for the municipality this year. He added that the construction of the borehole in this neighborhood aims to provide access to clean drinking water and help prevent diarrheal diseases. Chicomaussico urged the contractor to adhere to the established deadlines saying.
"The government provided us with funds to drill ten boreholes this year. After completing this one, the contractor will move on to other neighborhoods. We will return soon to inaugurate the borehole so that residents can stop drinking water from the Lunho River. This is how we will prevent waterborne diseases."
Árabe Amisse, president of the Municipal Assembly of Metangula, called on local residents to monitor the project to prevent the misuse or theft of materials. He also urged them to contribute to the maintenance of the future water source in case of any malfunction.
Capueleza is located approximately 13 kilometers from the district headquarters in Metangula. (Davide Muianga)
