Nagi Investments nearly cancels boat operations on the Monapo river

Nagi Investments has rented two boats to facilitate its daily operations and improve passenger crossings to the other side of the Monapo River in Nampula Province.

The boats from Nagi that depart from Cabo Delgado are destined for the Monapo River, while those leaving from Nampula and other provinces also end up at this river.

According to information obtained by Mozanorte, the company provides fuel daily to keep the boats operational. In addition to serving its own clients, this initiative also benefits the local population that relies on these crossings for their daily activities.

However, the local government has not been supplying fuel for the operation of these boats, which hampers Nagi Investments' ability to continue its services. Due to this issue, the boats were idle for nearly two hours while waiting for a response from the relevant authorities. The stoppage began after the captains requested refueling.

Mozanorte has learned that currently, there are no state-operated vessels operating in that stretch of the river. Even when there is an intention to assist, few people come forward to help.

The support provided by the company includes free transportation for passengers, with only cargo crossings being charged based on direct negotiations with the captains.

After two hours of inactivity, a discussion took place between company representatives and members of the Coastal and River Police (PCLF), Intransmar, and the Navy, who work in collaboration with the company in that region. (BP)
