In previous years, during the mandate
of Novinte, according to the residents of Nacala Porto, Nampula province in
north of Mozambeque after the passage of cyclones like Dikeledi and Jude, the
neighborhood secretaries would collect data.
Once the secretaries gathered the
data, knowing the number of destroyed houses, some time would pass before the
relevant authorities distributed materials to rebuild the houses. This happened
in almost all the neighborhoods of Nacala Porto.
However, after the cyclones Dikeledi
and Jude, Nacala Porto suffered significant damage, affecting many families. Up
to this point, no help has arrived from the district authorities, either in the
form of food or construction materials, to assist with rebuilding the homes.
Mozanorte spoke with one of the
neighborhood secretaries from Ontupaia in Nacala Porto, who stated: "This
is a very concerning matter for us, as we are being held responsible without
knowing anything about it."
This has been a major challenge for
us. Many neighborhood secretaries are being pressured by residents who don’t
understand why their homes haven’t been addressed, without any adequate
explanation. Additionally, there is the issue of the funds allocated for the
fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, which still haven’t been received.
Cyclone Jude came with heavy rains,
which worsened the destruction of houses and caused erosion on the streets in
the neighborhoods of Nacala Porto (BP).
