From September 15 to 17, a training session on public finance management was held at Micala Lodge, in the municipality of Metangula, Lago district, Niassa province. The training was organized by the Civil Society Learning Center (CESC) and targeted members of civil society.
A total of 23 participants attended the training, 14 of whom are members of the civil society platform. These individuals will work closely with communities to encourage public participation in the management of public finances from local planning to district-level engagement, explained Virgílio Mário Wassa, Provincial Officer of the "Transparency and Accountability" project.
"They will serve as a support bridge between communities and government structures, enabling community participation in planning and decision-making processes. That’s why we saw the need to equip these groups with basic knowledge of public finance," he stated.
As part of the project, communities will have a voice in evaluating government performance, with a particular focus on the education and health sectors. This will help assess the population’s level of satisfaction with the implementation of government plans.
Virgílio Mário expressed his hope that the trained civil society platform will effectively apply the knowledge gained and called for greater collaboration from government entities.
CESC is currently implementing the "Transparency and Accountability" project in the provinces of Nampula, Cabo Delgado, and Niassa specifically in the districts of Lago, Sanga, and Ngauma. (Reported by Divid Muianga)
