One week after Cyclone Jude, which
damaged many homes and roads in some areas of the Nampula and Cabo Delgado
provinces, communication between the cities in northern Mozambique has become
difficult.
The city of Montepuez is one of the
places that relies heavily on motorcycle taxis, but due to the lack of fuel
over the past three days, it has become very difficult to find a motorcycle
available in the neighborhoods. For those who manage to carry out their daily
tasks, the price is no longer the same as before, and each driver sets their
own fare.
This situation is happening because of
the fuel shortage in the area, as many taxi drivers have parked their
motorcycles, and there is no indication of when fuel will be supplied to the
pumps in the city.
This issue has caused great concern
among the residents of Montepuez, and they are urging the competent authorities
to resolve the matter. It’s not just motorcycles; many minibus taxis that
operate in the city have also parked in their yards.
Without fuel, there is no circulation
of vehicles, and without vehicle movement, there are no trips. Therefore, it is
crucial that the fuel pumps are replenished as soon as possible, ideally within
the next few days or by the end of this week (BP).
